Hanami: cherry blossom festival

I picked up a new Voigtlander f/1.1 lens just in time for the springtime bloom in NYC. Central park blooms a little bit earlier than the outer boroughs, and NYC in general is earlier than the surrounding regions by a week due to the heat island effect in the city. Both of the Frederick Law Olmstead-Calvert Vaux parks in the city are planted with groves of cherry and apple trees that create this surreal scene for a couple days each year.

I upgraded to a Mac Mini recently and hawked my MacBook Pro off on Craigslist. I’ve noticed a huge improvement in speed especially when I’m running Aperture or Photoshop. I got the server version, with the quad core i7 because both those programs make pretty good use of all the cores.

Ok, so I gave in and jumped on the bandwagon…

And bought myself a Mac. I’ve been a long-time holdout, not because I don’t like Mac computers, but because there hasn’t been a laptop that they make that came quite close enough to fit my needs. I wanted a smaller form factor; the Fujitsu laptop that I am replacing has a 11” screen and an enormous battery life. The Fujitsu was before the “netbook revolution” so it was a fairly fast computer for the level of portability that it offered (at the time). I just got sick of waiting for a 11” Macbook pro or a new Macbook Air, so I picked up this guy.

A mega-sized iPhone is an apt description.
